Some selected music icons who have contributed immensely towards the development of the music industry in Ghana were honoured last Saturday at the National Theatre during the second edition of the Dream Child Charity Concert.

The event which attracted thousands of music fans witnessed historic musical performances from musicians such as Osibisa, Becca, Ben Brako, Steve Bedi, Stephanie Benson and Paulette Broohm, all from Ghana. Others were Dr Bone from South Africa, Paul Bilson from UK, Sabina Boyer from France, Yinka Davis, Kunle Ayo, Mama G, all from Nigeria, among others.

The event was also used to honour some of the country’s music icons who have contributed immensely toward the progress of the music industry in Ghana.

The musicians who were honoured include Kofi Ghanaba for perseverance, tenacity and a sheer determination to project the African personality and originating afro jazz.

The leader of the Osibisa Band Teddy Osei received an award for exemplary band leadership of over 40 years, selfless charity and charting a course for a veritable African sound.

A fashion designer, Mike Sylla, was also honoured in recognition of his God-given talent which has put African fashion on a world stage and inspiring countless Africans in the Diaspora, and Vanessa Gyan, daughter of the late Kiki Gyan of Osibisa fame received an award for creating a veritable African music genre- afro rock.
